6 week growth spurt?? I hope!
« on: September 30, 2009, 00:31:38 am »
My LO turned 6 weeks last Friday. He was born a week early if that makes a difference. For almost a week now his naps have really gone crazy. They're all pretty much a half hour. He was doing fine eating every 3 hours and was doing ok with naps. Now he is smacking his lips and sucking on his hands after just 1.5-2 hours. By the time he's done eating, he's ready to sleep for his half hour again. It's so draining! I wonder if it is a growth spurt or if it's just a habit now. He is formula fed and eats 4oz each bottle. I can't up the oz. because he'll still only drink 4. He also isn't going to bed well and is now waking up after a half hour after we put him down, just like he does all day. I know half hour naps usually indicate OT but his awake times are so off that it's hard to determine what his ideal awake time is. It seems like no matter what awake time I give him, he'll still only nap for 30 minutes.

His nights are pretty well. We'll finally get him down between 8:30-9:30 and he's been waking around 3am and then 6am.

Another question...ideally I'd like around 7am to be his wake up time. He usually wakes around 6am. This morning he woke at 6am and I went to feed him but he fell asleep instantly so I put him back down and he slept until 8am. I wonder if I should've done that or if I really should have got him up for the day at 6am? Maybe that messed with his naps too?

Things are still very confusing/frustrating! He is doing great at night and I wonder if that's why naps are so horrible? Here's what today looked like:

Last night he was asleep at 8:45pm
E-5:45am (A 9 hour stretch which was great!)
A-None (Fed him like it was a night feed and put him right back down. Maybe I should get him up for his first feed of the day?)
S-Back to sleep until he woke at 9am

E-9:00am
A-
S-10:20am-10:50am (wrapped in swaddle for wind-down at 10 and asleep at 10:20am (woke at 10:50am so half hour nap which I know usually means OT so tomorrow I'll cut back on A time again) He was very cranky but does not fall back asleep no matter what we do when he wakes after a half hour.

E-11:30am (He used to easily go 3 hours but nothing was making him happy so we fed him)
A-
S-12:30pm-1pm (Tried to get him to sleep earlier but he wanted nothing to do with it...another half hour nap)

E-1:30pm (Again, he was very cranky so we fed him early)
A-
S-2:50pm-3:20pm (Another half hour nap! Again, right after he was done eating we tried to get him down but would not fall asleep until 2:50!)

E-4:00pm (Still cranky so we fed him early. Decided to get out of the house and went to the mall. He catnapped in the stroller but not much at all)

E-6:30pm (He slept from 7-7:30pm but has been awake still and it's almost 8:30pm)

Please Help!!! What do I do and where do I even start??! He fights sleep ALL day but is so cranky! Can this seriously be normal?! So today he only had 3 half hour naps and some catnapping in the stroller...maybe a total of 20 minutes though! This is just crazy to me! I don't know how I'm going to do this with my toddler as well! I've also tried everything for naps including the bouncy seat and swing and he won't sleep in those either!
