8 month old waking
« on: October 05, 2009, 12:56:05 pm »
Hi,  My son is 8 months old next week and has always slept through the night 7am-7pm from 4 weeks so I have been very lucky, however over the past 4 weeks he has woke at 2-3am crying.

I leave him for a few minutes to see if he falls asleep and then if he doesnt I give him a bottle and he goes back to sleep until 6.30-7am.

I cant think why this is happening his day consists of the following and im pretty sure he gets enough food he is a big boy!

7am breakfast
9.30-10am bottle 7oz & snooze for 10-30mins
12pm lunch
2pm bottle 7oz & snooze for 30-60mins
5pm dinner
7pm bottle 7oz and bed

Any suggestions woul;d be greatly appreciated

Hi -

Is your DS only getting about 1.5hrs of sleep all day? If so, he is definitely OT. Also, are you using the bottle to help him fall asleep? By teaching him to fall asleep independently, he will be able to put himself to sleep at night if he wakes.

I would try to fit in another bottle feed during the day as well. It looks like he's only drinking 24oz all day. Solids aren't as filling as milk, so milk is still more important than solids. At 7mos my DD was still on 4 bottles, she drank 6-8oz per bottle for a total of 24-32oz, usually averaging about 30oz per day. At 7/8mos, this is what a typical routine looks like:

7am - wake and bottle
8am - breakfast
10am - nap
11:30 - wake from nap, bottle
1:00pm - lunch
2:30pm - nap
4:00pm - wake from nap, bottle
5:00pm - dinner
7:00pm - bottle and bedtime

HTH! :)
