22 month old will only go to sleep in front of door
« on: October 13, 2009, 01:57:26 am »
My 22 month old is out of her crib for about five months now. She climbed out so we had no choice.  She does fine going to sleep on her own but always falls asleep in front of the door to her room. She knows she's supposed to go to sleep in her bed and everytime we go in to check on her she races into bed but stills waits until we leave, then walks to the door, lays down and goes to sleep. Any ideas how I can get her to go to sleep in her bed instead of the floor?

Is her room dark? Maybe she can see some light coming in under the door and it makes her feel secure? If so you could try a very small night light. Or you could put her mattress on the floor and see if she likes that better than the bed. Does she nap? And if yes in her bed?

I moved my 2.5 year old to a bed at around the same age and although the first day or two he slept in the bed, his naps started taking place on the floor in front of the door as well.  What we did is put two bed safety rails across the exposed edge of the bed to simulate the closed-in feeling of a crib, but in a big bed.  Mind you, he was also sleeping on the lower half of the bunk bed, so he really couldn't get out over the rails if he tried.  We had to move his younger brother into the crib, so DS#1 made the move.  We took the bedrails down about two months ago and he never came off the bed during nap times or night times.
