Is This an Intolerance or Something Else?
« on: October 13, 2009, 10:26:58 am »
Hi there..
can I jump on the boat...? my lo had a terrible night with BMs, wind...she woke up crying twice (where she would sleep through the night) and had a full feeding and I had to change her diaper a couple of times. I had a lot of feta and mozz cheese before I went to sleep...poor thing was writhing and squirming the entire night.
My husband suggested to switch my 3 and half month old to formula but I'm not convinced..could she have an intolerance? Are the symptoms closely resembled to acid?

Does this only happen when you have the cheese or is this an ongoing issue?  If it's an ongoing issue I'd think it's very possible that dairy could be the culprit.  If not, perhaps it was just the cheese?

Some symptoms of milk protein intolerance can mimic those of reflux. If you look on the Reflux board FAQ's I think there's a Sticky about MSPI: milk soy protein intolerance.

Bear in mind, though, that it's hard to find milk-free formulas; many milk-protein-intolerant babies also can't tolerate soy.

spectra, deb..thanks for your input and reply. I've been so focused on her "acid" that I hadn't even payed much attention to my diet. Last night was definitely better..all I had was fish all day!
I'm going to cut dairy out..I was suspecting that the symptoms of acid may mimic those of reflux as I am worried about her lately. I'll start her on the PPI and see if they start to work
