Empty breast or not?
« on: October 16, 2009, 09:41:03 am »
How do I know when my 6 week old has emptied a breast? I squeeze my breast a bit and milk always comes out even after 30-40 mins. Thanks.

Good question!  I'll be interested to hear what others say.  My LO acts uninterested or unlatches, so I switch to the other side, but I am convinced she would get more hindmilk if she'd stay latched on a while since I can still express some easily by hand.

My doctor told me that the breast will never actually empty as it is constantly making milk, so even if you have been feeding on one side for 30+min you would still be able to express by hand. My lo usually feeds 10-20min per side and like pp says he acts uninterested or gets fussy so I switch sides.
