« on: October 16, 2009, 11:22:37 am »
Hello, Please can some one help?? I am not sure if my 13 week old baby boy should only have 40 minute naps, should I try to extend it to 1.5 even though he sleeps well at night??  It usally takes 15 mins to get him down and he always wakes on the hour for the feed.

My EASY Routine is:

E - 4.30 (this is hunger he sleeps stright away after feed)
S - 5 - 9

E- 9
S- 11 - 12 (only 45 in sleep)

E- 12
S- 2-3  (only 45 in sleep)

E- 3
S- 5-6  (only 30 - 45 in sleep, never regular but between 5 and 6ish)

E- 6
S- Small nap 7.30 - 8

E- 8
A- Wash, cuddle, bed
S- 9

D/ F - 10.30 - 11

Thanks!!  :D

hi there, wow you have a really late start and end to your day, most babies are best woken up and put to bed between 6-8.30pm for some reason this just seems to sit well with them.

to start off for this age you should really only be having 1 hour 20-30mins A time, you are having 2 hours and thats too much for them at this age. i would try cutting back the A time and seeing what happens.

Thankyou very much for the reply, I know its late for him to wake!! I have no idea how to get him to nap longer and have less A time as he is really active, do you have any suggestions?? When he is tierd he yawns and rubs his eyes, I then take him to his room and put him in his crib and most times he falls stright to sleep. But if I try to put him down earlier he just cries and gets really upset :-(

Thanks again

can i suggest you wake him up earlier in the day, say 8am? then at 9am take him to his room and do a quiet wind down for 10mins (this allows him to process the thought "oh its nearly time for bed, i better calm down and get myself ready" kind of thing so he knows whats coming) and then into bed, this allows anotehr 10mins for him to fall asleep on his own or for you to help him wiht shh/pat if he starts crying.

If that doesnt work then im not sure what else you can do, this is just what we did with Caleb and hes a very active baby :)
