Anyone wean the paci to successfully create longer naps?
« on: October 18, 2009, 01:34:33 am »
Hi All, DD2 is now 11.5 wks and we have successfully weaned the paci almost 2 wks ago.  I thought for sure this would help with the short naps as now she is truly independently sleeping without any props but white noise and a swaddle.  I'm so disappointed as I thought we'd be seeing longer naps by now but she consistently wakes at the 40 or 45 min mark, no matter how I tweak the A time.  I find that about an hour and a half works well for her - she settles within 5-10 mins pretty calmly.

My question is, has anyone seen great success with naps after weaning the paci at this age and if so, how long did it take?  Also, if she is able to go down initially without the paci with little issue, would it be a mistake to try and offer it to extend a nap?  I know BW recommends giving it for nap extension but will this confuse her since I have weaned it from the initial put down?

Hi there, we weaned at 4 months successfully, not sure about 3months though, have you tried W2S to help through the cycle transition?

Hi, I have only tried it a few times without much luck...it's been a while though.  I guess its worth a shot again.  I'll try for this morning nap....should it be around 30 mins that you do the W2S?

its different for each baby, you have to do a couple of trials to find out which minute works best. ours was 27mins, have a go a bit earlier and see if it works

I just want to bump this up and see if anyone can try to answer my original question regarding the paci and naps :-)  Thanks so much!
