sleeps sitting up!
« on: October 19, 2009, 09:44:59 am »
I have a very strange problem with my nearly 8mo. Although she goes to sleep on her back, at some point either during a nap or night sleep she'll wake slightly, automatically sit up and then fall back to sleep with her head slumped over her chest. She can sleep like this for hours, but I daren't go in and lie her down because she wakes up. When I finally get her up her face is bright red and I'm worried she'll be damaging her spine or neck muscles by doing this. I've never seen anything like it! Any advice?

well I've never heard of this before.  How interesting and a little humorous to imagine.  However, it is a little scary I think.  If i were you I'd certainly lay her back down if she's getting red in the face.  A healthy baby is better than a sleeping baby.  But it may not be a problem at all so maybe your doc would have some good advice if you don't receive any here.

AS she is 8mo maybe put her to sleep on her tummy? It may deter her a little!!

My lo is 11months and has just recently began to fall asleep in the crawling position or sitting up and slouching forward. I always place her on her back but she roles over, sits up and slouches forward. :-\

Oh my! I imagine that cant be good, especially if shes red in the face. Caleb often falls asleep with his bum in the air (hes a tummy sleeper) i just wait until i know hes in a deep sleep and move him, if he does stir he goes right back to sleep. I would try tummy sleeping, it might deter her. Im interested to hear your progress though, have you spoken to your Dr about it?
