Hi and welcome to BW.

Did your dr say why he wants you to start solids?  WHO recommends to wait till 6 mos to introduce solids as bm/formula is all a baby needs.  Even at 6 mos, it is best follow your lo's cues in readiness for solids. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=36922.0

Have a read through this http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=94.0 as it contains some valuable info on introducing solids, sample eating routines and book/online resources on solids feeding timetable.

We were bottle feeding my LO 6 oz ever 4 hours and it was like it wasn't satisfying him. So i added an extra 1/2 OZ well he spit up like crazy so i tthought maybe he was being overfed. When we went back to the doctor i talked to him about it and he told me to try giving him some cereal by spoon 3 times a day. He thought 6 1/2 oz was a lot for my LO he weighs 14lbs.

So i went back to 6 oz bottles and started spoon feeding him a tablespoon of cereal 3 times a day but he spit up even worse when i was doing that.
It was killing me so i stopped.

Now i am feeding him 6 oz ever 4 hrs with 3 teaspoons of cereal in his bottle at 11 am and at 6:30 pm i spoon feed him a tablespoon of cereal  and give his bottle at 7:00 PM. Since i started that he hasn't spit up that much at all.

I just don't know what to do and how much to feed him.

Hi there :)

IMHO, I would stop adding cereal to his bottle.  Here in Canada they strongly discourage it as it is a choking hazard. If eating from a spoon is making him spit up, then I would try offering less cereal per sitting, making it runnier, or not offering cereal at all. Cereals are actually very hard to digest, and rice cereal especially can cause gas and constipation.  The only reason that rice cereal is a recommended first food is that babies are almost never allergic to it and it's fortified with iron.  However, if your lo is drinking his formula well he's getting plenty of iron from it.

In BWSAYP Tracy actually recommends starting with pears, as they are nutritious, easy to digest, and not very allergenic.  Honestly, in your shoes, I would stop the cereal in the bottle, continue offering the cereal in the evenings if it's not causing you any troubles, and then offer pears at breakfast time in a couple weeks when he might be more ready for them. You should always offer new foods in the mornings so that you have the whole day to watch for an allergic reaction :)

what do you think?

Yeah! I think i am going to keep spoon feeding him the cereal at night and wait till he is 5 to 6 months to start the veggies/fruit.

My thing is i don't know how to fit it into a schedule. Especially how much to give him at once. I guess i need some understanding on when and how much to feed him. How much food and how much bottle after food.

Should you decide to offer solids, then think of the solids as the A in EASY.  That is, follow your normal routine of milk feeds, activity, naps, etc.  Solids in this early stage is mainly for experience and taste.  Solids should not be replacing any milk feeds as there is so much more nutrients, calories and minerals in bm/formula for a healthy baby.

So for example, if you want to start with rice cereal at night, then offer the bottle first, wait 30-60 min then offer some cereal.  Solids sit heavily in los stomach and thus can make them feel full.  However what they need if sufficient nutrients and calories for growth and feeling full is not gain to get them to eat the beneficial bm/formula.
