What to do when LO won't cat nap?
« on: November 11, 2009, 00:58:51 am »
My LO is 9 weeks old, he is a good napper all day now that I worked out the kinks in a OT and growth spurt cycle.  He naps about 90-105minutes every three hours...so three good naps.  But when it comes time for the cat nap in the evening...he is so not tired.  As I reflect on his sisters behavior who was also on EASY...she was the worst cat napper...we always just went to bed early.  She never took a cat nap.  Could I be fighting fate with this cat nap at this point?  Maybe as he gets older and his A time increases he will be more tired in the evening but for now I am not sure what else to do?  Any advice or suggestions would be great.

I would just put him to bed for the night early, unless this causes EW. You could also cut his other naps short by waking him up after 1.5 hours, but I would try an early bedtime first. You're right; as he gets older and you extend A time, it might work to throw the CN back in.

Well, his EWs have gotten a little earlier lately and I can't think of why but this might be finally catching up with him.  he used to sleep until 530/600 at which point I'd feed him a bit and send him back to bed.  But lately it's been more like 330/430.  He is usually getting to sleep at the same time as if he had the cat nap....he is not fussy or anything...in fact  it is the most alert time of the day.  The only problem I have is that he has a hard time finishing his bottle and that might have something to do with the earlier EW...especially now since has just had a growth spurt and likes to drink a lot more per feed.  Maybe I need to get him to bed earlier...like 600pm and offer him another feed at 800 and the DF. Or, just need to be persistent and get him in the bed for the nap.  I have really tried every means of cat napping....a swing, a cuddle, a rocker, a sling, and his crib...but no luck.  I'll keep trying!
