Cheese
« on: November 17, 2009, 00:11:40 am »
I'm trying to fit in more milk products in my LO's diet and have a great time with yogurt.  However, it is really hard to get her to eat cheese.  I'm just not sure what kind to buy for her and am reluctant to buy anything so as to not waste money.
I'm interested to know what kind of cheese other moms and dads buy for their LO's and what is "liked".
thanks much

My DS has never really liked cheese on it's own, but he loves it melted on just about anything!!  Usually cheddar, but he'll try other kinds too if it's on/in his food.  Like he likes swiss in chicken cordon bleu, mozzarella on pizza, parmesean on pasta, etc.  He'll even eat a bit of cheese melted on a bagel or toast, and cheese sauce is a good way to get cheese on just about anything!  :)

Mild cheddar and Baby Fruilano are their favourites!

mozarella cheese sticks and baby bell are favourites here, melted cheddar on bread is enjoyed too and fresh mozarella with tomatoes or just on its own.

Also recommend mild cheddar and Baby Bells, though my 2 year old is really more interested in opening those herself than actually eating them, and once she does get around to eating them, she usually shoves the entire thing in her mouth at once.  Size and texture was important.  When she was really little, I bought the pre-packaged cheese in the "crumbles" size, by the time she was about 14-15 mo, we moved onto the cubed size and so on.

My ds loves cheese. He'll eat cheddar mostly and loves it melted on crumpets.

I've got a little cheese monster too - although he will spit out mild cheddar in favour of the mature kind!!  (he loves smoked mackrel (sp?) too - odd baby!)

Baby Bells here as well but where I live they are expensive!   Edam is his favourite, we can buy it pre-sliced and he loves it.  Cheese slices ("American cheese" like Kraft or velveeta), while not as pure and does have additives I am sure is another MASSIVE favourite here and is the best kind for grilled cheese sandwiches.  And any kind of spreadable cheese like Buko or Philadelphia on ANYTHING and DS loves loves loves it!!

Mine loves strong cheddar too, won't consider mild cheese!

Cheddar cheese cut into cubes!  Loves it.

And cream cheese (we use philadelphia) and my LO would eat it all the time!  Favourites are on brown bread or in a tub to use it as a dip with bread sticks!

Shredded cheddar cheese is a favourite in this house. They used to have a hard time with a piece but shredded is another story. They're monsters :)
