2nd nap shorten
« on: December 04, 2009, 00:09:36 am »
My son will turn 8 months tomorrow.  He has been on E.A.S.Y since 4 months old. When he turned 7 months he shorten his 2nd nap between 45min-1hr and he won't go back to sleep.
Solids started at 6months.
He did start sitting up unassisted in his 7th month.

7am wakes up and has breast milk
activity time
8am eating solids
activity time
9-11 sleeps GREAT! :)
11am wakes up and has breast milk
activity time
1-2 sleeps
3pm has breast milk
activity time
5-5:30 cat nap
activity time (cranky because he thinks when he wakes up from his nap he should have breast milk like the rest of the day)
6:30pm eating solids
7 has breast milk
asleep at 8:30pm

What do you all suggest I change?

hi there, first of all at 8 months we dont usually have the CatNap anymore, this is usually dropped in the 6/7 month age range. he is doing an A time suitable for a 4 month old and so will need to extend your A times. the CatNap wont be able to be dropped until he has reached at least 3 hours of A time.... BUT while increasing the a time you will need to do it slowly and gently so that he can get used to it, not all at once or he will end up Overtired and thats a mess you really dont wanna clean up :)

with increasing his A time this means his sleeptimes will drop a bit too, usually to 2x1.5 hour naps. so theres alot to take in here, i suggest slowly increasing his A time by 15mins every three or four days until its up to 3 hours first

Are you saying its okay to change my feeding times then?  Because everything will shift if we do a 3hr A time.

Now that you sent those links its obvious he has been showing signs of needing more awake time and I was just not sure of it.

Is this the routine I should follow?

7am Eat
10 Sleep til 11:30
11:30 Eat
2:30 Sleep til 4
4pm Eat
8pm ??  Eat then sleep
Not sure how the end of the day should look...Please help!

I like structure and direction, I just need to be told what times things need to happen and I have no problem working to make them happen :)

yep that looks right to me.
If you are still on four bottles a day feeds will look like this for that routine:
7am bottle, 8.00 solids
11.30 bottle, 12.30/1pm solids
4pm bottle, 5.00/5.30 solids
7pm bottle then sleep

I wouldnt do a 4 hour A time at the end of the day or it will get messy.

If you are on three bottles a day then it will look like this:
7am bottle 8.30am solids
12pm lunch, 1.30pm bottle (offer a snack at 2pm if you are worried he may get hungry before 4pm)
4.30pm dinner, bottle at bedtime
this is the routine we do :)

when your LO tells you hes ready by not being interested so much in one of his bottles, usually the mid morning one
