ok, thank you Adam's Mum...
btw, it's been a week that I've given him breakfast... should I introduce lunch or dinner first?
Tracy's book mentioned to introduce dinner then lunch.... -

also, i'm still giving him rice cereal at the moment... can I introduce pear for his new food? or should I just stay rice cereal for 3 weeks?

cheers
Yenny

We are introducing a new food each week, and then pushing the tried-and-true food to the following meal.

Yeah, mine didn't either...we switched right to pears the next day, which he took to very well.  Also, sweet potatoes (yams) are a big hit!

Hi there,

I hope the pears worked out well for your little guy :)

I completely made all of my food for the girls at home and they had a real issue with rice cereal. We quit after a couple of days and moved to apples (I never thought of pears). I waited 3-5 days and introduced the next food and I gave food after bottles. Our public health nurse here (NB Canada) advised us that up until 12 months that the solids would just compliment bm/formula and should always follow the bottle/bf. I also did lunch next just because if they were having a bad belly day and what they ate didn't agree, then they would have a few hours to work it out before bedtime.

There's so many foods out there that can be given to los pureed and fruits and veggies were by far the easiest. My food processor handled baked/boiled meats quite well once broth was added. All foods were poured into ice cube trays and frozen. I would take out a day's supply the night before and it would thaw in the fridge. Microwave each meal right before and the girls loved it. It also worked out to 13 cents per jar as compared to 69 cents at the store. I'm a big fan of homemade food :)

If you do go the route of ice cube trays, just pop them into freezer bags but don't forget to label the bag! lol. A lot of fruits and veggies are orange and really hard to tell apart.

Hope you're having fun with the solids and your lo :)

Hi there,

we gave him pear and he takes it very easy. He loves it.... ;)
We're moving on from the rice cereal... Once you introduce for breakfast, did you give lunch or dinner for the next step?

Usually you just bump the proven food to the next meal, so I'd go for lunch. :)

I've just started DS on solids this week as advised by Health Nurse.  With DD was advised to start at 6 months but seems now here in Australia that new research shows to start at 4 months...  He seems to hate the rice cereal, (DD was a fan either) so I mixed some apples into it, though not much better so today I will try fruit with no rice cereal and see how we go.  Anyone else start at 4 months?

My DS has mild eczema so the health nurse suggested to start solid from 6 months...
I'm thinking of doing mix fruit with rice cereal for next week. He likes his pear..

btw, am I supposed to give until he refuse eating or stick to the 2-3 tbs?

I agree that rice cereal is not very appealing, but it is fortified with the iron that babies really start to need around the 6 month mark. Is there another option of "real food" that still has the same iron content?

It's actually a myth that babies need extra iron around 6 months. Formula has a lot of iron in it already and breastfed babies get iron through BM (mamas can supplement themselves with iron if need be). If you still feel you need extra iron, winter squash and sweet potatoes (both first good foods) have good iron content.
