A few questions about BF and trying to get pregnant
« on: December 06, 2009, 21:36:53 pm »
Hi,
DH and I are starting to think about trying for #2.... I'm still BF DS at 9mos old.  Does BF make it harder to get pregnant? I haven't got my period back yet?? Is that normal after 9 mos? Or does it not come back until DS is weaned?

I got mine back when dd1 was 12 months, and dd2 about 11 months, I think.  I got pregnant with dd2 on first cycle while I was still bfing, and I am still bfing dd2 so you don't have to wait until lo is fully weaned before your cycle starts again.

My son was ebf & I never got my period but got pregnant when my son was only 3 months old. My daughter was born 12 months & 10 days after my son.  Another woman I work with was also ebf her daughter when she got pregnant (her girls are 15 months apart) :0)
good luck!

Someone else asked a similar question not so long ago and it seems to totally vary. I know a few ladies who got their periods back around 9/10 months who were still bf. Mine did not return til I weaned DD at nearly 12m, then I literally got it 2 weeks later and conceived immediately, but obviously I don't know if it was just coincidence that it returned then or because I weaned her. I do remember reading that if you are having 6 hours between feeds you are more likely to start ovulating again than if you are feeding more frequently. HTH. x
