Constipating foods?
« on: January 03, 2010, 15:13:51 pm »
Weird question I know, but Stan tends to have his daily BM around 6.30am. If he doesn't, for some reason, he'll sleep til 7. So I'd like to try giving him some fruit/prune puree in his morning yoghurt, and some more, ahem, 'binding' foods in the afternoon, to see if I can shift the daily rhythm up a few hours.

Yes you may call me selfish.

For us it's cheese, and to a lesser extent yogurt, unripe or just ripe bananas (ones that are brown spotted are fine), rice, and anything more than 3-4 servings of bread in a day.

BRAT diet? Recommended with diarrhea/flu? It includes these binding foods:

    * Bananas
    * Rice
    * Applesauce
    * Toast

Agree with the pps. Also heard chicken and dried blueberries are more binding

Was just looking into this when DD had diarrhea and wanted to firm things up for her. Bananas/applesauce/bland white crackers/bread/rice and chicken were the top of the list. I googled it LOL

:)

I think bran is supposed to make you go ?? can't remember if that's correct or not....

I was referring to the BRAT diet (not bran) as recommended by doctors for binding.

aisling...I know...I was just referring to the other end of her idea...wanting him to poop earlier in the day so she can offer binding foods later and hope he won't poop in the early morning and wake up early. My BIL makes bran muffins and calls them "poop muffins" b/c they're supposed to encourage you to go I believe, so thought maybe she could try that for the mornings and the BRAT foods for the evenings.

Am I making sense?

It's not selfish - it's being practical ;o)  Someone told me once that most fruit beginning with p are good for getting things moving, and my gran used to swear by a bit of bran on her porridge for the same reason!

It is practical. And he is such a miserable little grouch when he wakes that the last thing any of us want to deal with is poop clean up. Horrible start to the day for us all.
