12 month... and all the sudden....!!!!
« on: January 25, 2010, 18:16:53 pm »
My lo has always been an excellent sleeper and eater! I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to read baby whisperer when my lo was only a week old. My husband and I implemented E.A.S.Y from the start, and with our spirited little girl, day to day has gone pretty smoothly! So of course, I'm thrown for a loop, when all the sudden, it seems she doesn't have much of an appetite (throwing her food off her tray while looking straight at me) And she's waking up at 5:30am EVERY morning now.

Any suggestions as to what it could be? From about 3 months old until just recently, her schedule has been pretty much this: (of course, taking into consideration, changes due to her age)

7:45am - wake (bottle at 8)
9:45 - breakfast (toast, or oatmeal usually)
10:45 - 11 - NAP
12:00 - awake
1 -1:30 - lunch.
3:00 - NAp
4:00 - awake (bottle or cheerios)
5:30 - 6 - Dinner
Bath and BED by 7:00

Thanks moms!

Hi, Kelowna Mom,
I assume you're in BC... I'm in Ottawa, and have something VERY similar going on, as of 2 days ago, with a very similar EASY routine. So I'm going to listen in and see what you get as replies. Ours, too, is now up at 5:30, throwing food, and refusing naps. Will post my own, but will also eavesdrop here, if you don't mind!

I'd guess it's probably time to tweak naps and A time. We had to cut the am nap around this time to get a good pm nap and have a long enough A to bed that DD wasn't UT. I am wondering if the EWs are UT but then she's getting OT from having accumulated short nights and acting a bit less pleasant as a result?

Here's some info on EWs in general and the 2 to 1 transition:

Ah, my old stomping grounds... I went to U of G, and had a boyfriend at Fanshawe, so visited London many, many weekends. Used to order from the Flying Tomato. Now THAT was pizza!
I just joined the support group for the 2-1 nap switch. See you there maybe? All the info that Nicole-Ava's Mom gave me fits my DS2 to a tee...

ditto to drop am nap.. we did it too recently.. i also moved am bottle to after break and cut down the volume to 5-6oz.  DD now 13mths looks like this
wake around 7:00 and plays in cot
7:30/8:00 Breakfast... usually cereals and milk/ fruit/ maybe a bit of toast
Bath, dress and then bottle.  Was tired in morning at first and sometimes if we're out in the car or buggy she does drop off.
12:00 Lunch
12:30/13:00 nap (2-2.5hrs)
Once wakes snack of fruit and some milk in a sippy
17:00 dinner followed by yogurt
18:30 or so bottle and then 19:00 bed

I wouldn't drop that morning nap suddenly though. It could definitely backfire on you. I'd look at those links and choose the method that you think will work best for your LO to head towards dropping it, which will be cutting one of the naps and altering the time of the second nap and GRADUALLY moving towards dropping it. Many LOs still need two naps of some sort until closer to 18 months so be careful about dropping cold turkey.

However, SOME moms who have LOs who can handle a lot of change easily have had success with going cold turkey, but it really depends on the LO and you'll know if yours could handle that or not.
