What to do?
« on: January 30, 2010, 17:35:26 pm »
My 7mo DS has been a tough sleeper since birth. He was born five weeks early and we finally got his sleeping under control in November when he was waking once for a paci and once for a feeding. Now, he is waking too many times to count at night... about every 1.5 to 2 hours. He did go for a 3 hour stretch last night after I broke down and fed him at 3:30am. But lately, he has not needed a feeding until 5am (the day generally starts at 7am).

Using pu/pd has helped his nighttime crying tremendously and now I don't even have to pick him up. But I don't know where to go from here. He is waking every couple of hours and seems quite restless or uncomfortable. We think he is teething but even Motrin doesn't help.

Here's his daytime schedule:

E 7am (breastfed)
S 8:30/9 (he sleeps for 1 hour and 15 minutes/1.5 hours)
E 11am (breastfed)
E 12pm (solids)
S 12:30/1 (he sleeps for 1.5 to 2 hours)
E 3pm (breastfed)
E 4pm (solids)
S 5pm (45 minutes to 1.5 hours)
E 7pm (breastfed)
I don't give him a DF because it seems to wake him up more

Help! Please!!

If it is a growth spurt, only about a week or so. Probably peaking around the 3 day mark. They usually are marked by random wake times as opposed to the same time each night. If you don't see an improvement in a few days or so it could be habit or b/c of a routine thing...one thing I notice is that his first A time is shorter than his second. Probably b/c he sometimes wakes a bit earlier than planned, but maybe pushing that out would get a longer first nap and that overall may help. Also his last catnap is a bit long. I'd cut it to 45 mins. only  and wake him if he sleeps past that.

Let me know what you think.
