Baby wakes for cuddle-what should we do??
« on: February 02, 2010, 19:14:12 pm »
We have checked and double checked that he doesn't need anything (food, temperature, wind, etc) and are in the process of teaching to self-soothe. He is getting very good at resettling himself. However he still wakes once or twice and we have to ssh pat to put him back down. He had dummy addiction so we got rid of it a month ago before anyone suggests it!
Our family have helped out with a few night duties and all agree he just wants the cuddle. I know he's only tiny (nearly 4 months) but as he doesn't NEED anything I really want to break the habit.

How do we do it? xxx

Hi there, I don't want to disagree with your family but given that he has not developed object permanence yet it's unlikely he's waking just for cuddles.  They just don't know that you exist when you are not there in front of them IYSWIM. It could have more to do with his inability to self-soothe himself when he wakes, so the shush/pat will help him to overcome that obstacle.

Could you post your current routine so we can take a look.

The tweaking never stops!
