Using breastmilk in cereal
« on: February 12, 2010, 21:44:47 pm »
I don't think I can pump enough both to feed my daughter bottles and use breast milk in her cereal.  We just started solids a week ago (6 mo).  Has anyone else run into this?  What do you do?

As far as I know you can give cow's milk in small amounts for cooking once the LO is 6m, just not as her main milk feeds :) I def used cow's milk for porridge before DD was 12m (but after 6m) Also not sure where you are but you can get baby cereals where you just need to add water.
HTH :)

You can use cows milk. it is fine to use cows milk in foods from 6 months, just not as a drink to replace breastmilk or formula

Just remember to introduce cows milk as a new food (in the morning, 3 day wait) to watch for potential reaction ;)

We actually used formula, partially so I didn't have to pump so much, but also for the extra iron.  You use so little, it really isn't that expensive.  Also, I was able to get some sample canisters from my pediatrician.  Some of them get them just like they get drug samples.  And a sample can is regular size too!
