LO is 14 months; how do I know if he's ready for 1 nap?
« on: February 15, 2010, 02:50:04 am »
My son is 14 months now and his naps are getting shorter and shorter.  Our morning A time is 3 hours and LO is now sleeping for a little under an hour.  Afternoon A time is 3.5-4 hours and again, his nap is a little under an hour.  by bedtime he seems really tired. (bedtime is 8pm).  I tried to extend the morning A time but he then only slept for 30 minutes (which he typically does as an OT nap.)

Also he is now waking earlier than normal.  A while ago he was waking up around 7-7:30 but these days he's been waking anywhere from 4-6 am.  Unfortunately, I have resorted to some APing because there's now way that I can start my day that early.  I give him water and occasionally milk.  (he seems hungry because he gulps down an entire bottle.)

Is he asking for one nap or does he still need 2?  Thank you very much for your help : )

Rather than just switch to 1 nap I would start by pushing his morning nap a little later and cutting it shorter, say to 30 mins. Then bring his afternoon nap forwards a bit and hopefully he will sleep longer because of his shorter AM nap. If he's still having two relatively long (+/- 1hr) naps, switching to 1 is likely to be a recipe for overtiredness, but doing it gradually can make a smoother transition.

Thank you so much.  I'll try that.
