Habitual EW with 4 week old
« on: May 02, 2010, 23:10:46 pm »
Hi everyone

My 4 week old DS has been waking each morning between 6 and 6:30am. We are on a 7-7 3hrly EASY. With the exception of last night, he's been having the DF, waking between 2 and 3am for a feed, then again at 6-something. We've held him off for a feed until 7 using the dummy, but I worry that he'll start waking for it.

Last night was a shocker - DF at 10, fed at 1am, 3am, 6:08am (one letdown only) then I put him back to bed. He mantraed for 30mins. Then I fed again at 7am.

How do I break this cycle of waking at 6-something am? Should we continue to use the dummy? Or feed a small amount? Please help. I'm so worn out.

Hi there, at 4 weeks they are just so so new and they have so many growth spurts in the first 6 mths.  If he's eating more then it sounds like a GS to me and something you have to ride out.  Big hugs, are you BFing, if so can you express some and get someone to try a bottle for him to allow you to get a bit more sleep?
The tweaking never stops!

I would feed him - I think 4 weeks is too young to be trying to stretch out the feeds.  It is quite likely to be a gs, and if you feed him and put him straight back to bed (so treat it as a night feed) then he should stop waking for it as soon as he doesn't need it.
