DS loves to touch my face while he's falling asleep.

Well the title says it all. My 19 month old DS loves to suck his thumb while touching my face, he does this even iof he's watching tv, I guess that's his comfort. So I really want him to become an independant sleeper again and don't know how I can stop him from having to touch my face as he falls asleep. Any help ladies? Thank you in advance.

Oh my...that is so sweet....*sigh*.     :)

Perhaps you could offer him a lovey, and when it's bedtime, (not just relaxing time, tv, books or some other time he touches your face...but only at naps and bed) you could put the lovey in his hand and you snuggle one side of the lovey while he touches the other?  Maybe?   :-\

Thanks Amelia 1227, I will try that, but what can I introduce to him as a lovey, apart from a blanket. I did try afew times to get him to touch his fdace :), but he weren't having it.

In the same boat :) DD weirdly puts her fingers in my mouth as a comfort thing!! She has done it since she was tiny and that's how she falls asleep...Must admit I haven't had the strength to try and stop it yet... ::)

My DS plays with his own ear while sucking his thumb - although when I've put him to bed and given him a cuddle he has tried playing with mine and we both ended up in hysterics... sorry I digress. 

What about offering him a vest top of yours that you have worn - so it smells of you then maybe at a later date you can swap it for a "proper" lovey.

Hmmm...I'm thinking something that is "meant" to be a lovey, they are usually like the size of a washcloth, and alot of them have satin around the edges...maybe he would really like the feel of satin!  To increase your chances, why don't you sleep with it a few nights, or put it inside your bra for an afternoon...it will have Mommy's scent that way.  It's not something that he will accept right away, but in time, I think it would work!

Hi lo loves to reach out and touch me while sleeping too, touch my hand ... she reaches out with one hand while she is suking her thumb with the other...I find it heart melting :)... so I always give her the same small stuffed sof toy to grab... over and over again :)
