EW & 15 month old
« on: May 07, 2010, 12:54:27 pm »
Hi all
I know this has been discussed over and over but one thing I haven't been able to find is if "w2s" doesn't work for an hour before wake up do you then do it earlier or later.

My 15 month old is waking consistently around the 6.30 mark. Some mornings he is fine and other times I know he is still tired. This happens no matter what time we put him to bed or how long he naps.
Anyway I started going in at 5.30 for the last 2 mornings and doing "w2s" but it doesnt seem to be working - so do I go in at 5.40 tomorrow morning or 5.20 or what is the general rule on this?

Here is his schedule:
On non-nursery days (Sat/ Sun)
6.30 - he wakes
10.00 nap for an hour
3/ 4 pm nap for 45mins/ hr
7.30 - bed

On nursery days it is
6.30 - he wakes
12.00 nap for an hour
7.30 - bed

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi there,
Technically he is not EWing as he is doing an 11 hour night which is quite normal for a toddler.
Is there any way he could nap longer at nursery?
Also - a 6.5 A time after a 1 hour nap seems long. Could he do an earlier bedtime on nursery days - he may wake at the same time but be more rested.
What do you think?
Becky x

Thanks Becky for that.

He only ever does between 45 mins and 1hr and 10mins nap in the nursery.

What should his A time be between naps at 15 months?

Thx x

well it really varies but on one nap somewhere between 5-5.5 I would think.
My DS is 18 months and does 5.45 in the am and 5.5 in the pm.
Many seem to prefer a longer am and then a shorter pm - bit of trial and error really. Your lo seems to be handling the long pm A time quite well if he is STTN and does 11 hours but watch out for OT signs and if you get them scale back the pm A time a little.

Should I just accept the 6.30 wake time then?

I did w2s for the last 4 mornings at 5.40 the first morning slept till 7.20, next morning 7 and the last two mornings have been 6.30 again. I know he goes to bed at 7.30 but when he wakes at 6.30 he is not very happy and is often crying and whinging after about an hour of being awake and then thats time for us all to get up.
The mornings he woke after 7 he woke in much better form.

I don't know if there is anything I can do to help him. Should I try the w2s for another few mornings so is it a waste of time if he is SSTN for 11 hours.

Sorry to ask again but wondering if anyone has any ideas what I am doing wrong.

I really feel I'm not doing right by him when I see him being so tired and he is getting upset.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there.

i dont think 6.30 is bad been as he is going to bed at 7.30pm as thats 11 hrs overnight.its probably the short naps making him tired.
Regarding the nap at nursery,do they wake him after the hr or does he wake himself? i do think he needs to go to bed a bit earlier on nursery days, not only because of the shorter nap but because he will be a lot more physically tired.

Re the nap at home that seems a bit messed up too.Do you wake him at the hr or does he wake himself? id be inclined to push to 10.30/10.45 and see how it goes and hope for a decent nap.1.5 ish, then give a second nap for 30 mins and then he wont be so OT for his bedtime.so maybe:
6.30
10.30-12
4-430
8pm bedtime. The later betime might help his wake up.

what do you think?

No the nursery don't wake him - they would prefer he would do the long naps the other toddlers are doing but he always wakes after an hour or an hour and 15 mins. Is there anything else I can do on nursery days to help him?

Its only Sat and Sundays he has the second nap but I was just putting that down to him being tired after his week. I will do your recommendation tomorrow and see how it goes.

From reading here though it seems a later bedtime does not necessarily mean a later wake time.
This morning he was awake at 10 to 6 - but I am hoping that is a once off.
