When to stop Dreamfeed, age or weight?
« on: May 11, 2010, 00:08:39 am »
My son is 6 1/2 months old and about 20 lbs!  He been not taking as much in his dreamfeed and i'm wondering if it's a good time to start stopping the DF.  he's a great sleeper and has been sleeping through the night since 4 months or so.  He's also eating solids and been eating 3 meals a day with that.  I just wanted to see if it wouldn't be too early to cut that out of his schedule.

I recall from Tracy's book she recommends around 7 months once solids are well established. I don't have the link but I believe she recommends moving 1 oz from df to daytime feed and doing this for three days until repeating the process.

Both mine were big babies, (over 22lb at 6mo) & I didn't do a dream feed with DS2, but kind of did with DS1 (although before I found BW) DS1 dropped it (as he woke for a 10pm) around 5mo (only to wake for it when illness, teething & childcare mucked every thing up at 7mo) With Ds2 I never DF & he started sleeping 11hours without a feed before 4mo (then a 3 day stay in Hospital messed that up & I was back to feeding a "newborn" due to supply )

If you wake him for a feed & he is a big baby I'd give it a go & see what happens.

Absolutely agree with pps, if your LO can do without the DF and still STTN, then go for it! Some babies can do it earlier than others.
Here is the info the pps mentioned:

Good luck and keep us posted!

I was just about to post about this. DS is 8 mo & still waking around 5:30 am to eat then goes back til 7 usually. I tried to wean him off this early feed, and it helped for awhile, but now he's back to it. He sometimes has NW issues, but we don't feed him. I have LOVED the DF but am wondering if it's time to drop it.

My question is: What are the signs that they are ready to drop it? and what does it help when dropped or hurt when continued too long?   ???

I'm just wondering if it could have anything to do with that early feed or the NW. Or since he still needs that early feed, does that mean it's not time yet to drop the DF? Thanks in advance!  :)
