cluster feed vs. DF
« on: May 14, 2010, 14:30:08 pm »
Hi all-

DD is 8 weeks old and we are finally getting a routine down ( sort of )

DD is still feeding 2.25- 2.5 hours, which we are trying to move longer, but this just seems to make her happy.  She also is an erratic napper which we are working on.  DD has super bad gas and reflux which we had been working on up to this point.

My question is:
The last 2 nights she starts at around 5 and eats about every hour until 730 (so really 3 20min feeds) and then goes to sleep for the night and then STTN.

This is awesome IMO, but I just wanted to make sure this will not screw something up later.

Previous to the last 2 nights, I have tried the DF, and was successful only once.  That night she STTN as well.  I just can't seem to get her to DF.  But I will be honest and say I have not tried the last  few nights b/c of STTN.

So what do you think?  Opinions/Advice?

Thanks

If she is STTN I would leave well enough alone. I don't DF because I find it makes DS wake up more often. He STTN at 8 weeks after his first imms but it only lasted 3 weeks and now he has 1 NW some time from 3am to 5am which seems to be getting later and later (fingers crossed).
Personally I don't like the DF. Currently we can go out for special occasions after DS has gone to bed at 8 and know he won't need anything until early morning. We can just leave Nana to babysit. Things would be more difficult if he were DF'd. I'm EBF and he's not a fan of a bottle.

Up to you but on this one I would stick with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Glad she is STTN at such an early age. Long may it continue for you.

As per PP if she is STTN what would you achieve by adding a dream feed? Tracy says if it is a choice between cluster or DF then do DF so it lasts them through the night but if she is lasting anyway I would go with it as it is. Perhaps if she starts waking then maybe rethink but for the moment count your blessings.

That is kind of what I thought, but didn't know if I was setting myself up for something in the future.
DD does not like bottle at all, and absolutely refuses it from me.

DS was FF due to terrible latch and we did a DF for him and he did not start sleeping through the night until 4 mo so I really have nothing to compare it to.

Thanks ladies!!  I knew I could get an answer :)
