i appreciate all your help..  last night was pretty good.  he woke once early on and then around midnight.  i just placed him on his belly didnt pick him up and patted him and he slept until 5.  so that was a great night for him.  then he kinda goes back to sleep but he is up some too so i quit counting the time from 5-7am
but all in all much better.  he is doing great this morning.  it seems like he has been waking at 645 every morning so we'll aim for a 1000 nap time.

so the past 4 nights i have been unable to get him to sleep until 3.45 exactly even if i start trying at 3 hours.  he lays awake and then begins crying after a few minutes.  and it is taking a long time to get him settled to sleep (we go up about 3-4 times from 700 to 900 or 930).  and he is napping longer than he ever has (now he is getting 3 hours and only got 2-2.5 in he past).. what do you think is going on?

Great about the naps.  Not so much about the nights though.  Can you post your EASY as it is now?  What age is your LO again?

E - 800 breakfAst
S - 1000 (about 3 hours after waking working on 3.15)

E/A - 1130 bf
E - 1230 lunch
S - 245

A - 415
E - 500 dinner
E - 700 bf
S - 730

I think your routine looks great.  3 hours day sleep for 8.5 months is fine as is 3-3.15 A time.  Have you tried bed 3 hours after wake up from nap to see if he settles any easier?

Is there anything else going on?  Teething? Any thing developmental?  We'd a terrible time with learning to stand at this age that messed sleep time up big time!

thanks a bunch!  i didnt have any clue it could cause something this bad...it is 800 and i have been up twice (he has only been in bed one hour).  he seems more difficult to settle???

LOL!  Yes I'd bet money on it!  I actually posted on here as I went from sticking her to bed and sitting for a wee minute to hours of settling at bedtime. 

I'd first of all tried just leaving her to it and just resettling if she got upset but it took forever.  In the end I made sure she was tucked in really tightly with a blanket (reduced how quickly she could stand up!) and stayed beside the cot and the minute she tried to stand up I put my hand on her and said  'its bedtime, time for sleep' and stopped her from getting up.  She settled MUCH quicker.  My DD is spirited and was never going to just practice standing up and then decide to lie down and go to sleep herself so I decided in intervene at the very start of bedtime rather than have all that messing around and then having to intervene anyways! 

It took about 2 weeks to settle here!

ugg, just when i saw the light......
i found intervening early with him works best too.  i am out in 5 min if i do that and if i wait it is 2 hours and i end up apoping to get him to sleep. 
i wont lie. i was hoping you would say 2 days not weeks.

i read that 8-10mths should have a time of 3-4 hrs..  3.15 is working thanks to you but to stay on top of things - when would i see the next increase in a times?

I'd sort the standing and get him settling well first.  Then what you'll probably see are naps cutting shorter or not settling well as just UT and then you'll know he's ready for more A time.   you're probably looking at upping it to 3.5 about 9 months or so.
