How to tell if bub is ready to move to 4 hour EASY??
« on: June 04, 2010, 02:14:59 am »
My LO is 11 weeks and was going well on 3.5 hour easy. The last week or so she has been taking a lot less at each feed and has also been waking at around 2.30 for a feed during the night, I assumed because she was getting less during the day. Her naps were also troublesome but are getting better with the use of the paci. I also think we are bathing her too late but she feeds at 7am, 10.30am, 2, 4pm, 6pm, bath at 8.30 and feed at 9pm then a Nw at 3am or so.

Today we were out on the road and we were late with the 10.30 feed at fed at 11 but she didn't fuss at all. I wondered if she was too young for 4 hour EASY??

Thanks

Hiya,
It's not reccomended for a baby to transition to a 4hr EASY until 4 months, so guess your LO is too young for it... Here is some info on the signs that your baby is ready for a 4hr EASY:

Having said that, even though the first two feeds of the day are 3.5hrs apart, I noticed that your LO is feeding at 2pm, at 4pm and at 6pm. Is there any particular reason for that? I'm thinking that maybe 2hrs is not allowing your LO to get hungry enough to take a bigger feed.
Have you tried sticking to a 3hr routine? What happens when you do?

When you say she's taking a lot less at each feed: do you mean she's feeding for less time? It might be that your DD is just becoming a better feeder, more effective. Or do you feel your breasts are not emptying?

About the NW:
It's normal for a baby 11 weeks old to be still waking at night for feeds, actually, one NW is quite good.

But again, I would still try to look at how her daytime feeds are going, especially if you feel she's not feeding well.
