EW and 2-1 transitioning for 16month old
« on: June 22, 2010, 01:31:25 am »
Hi all, I'm new to this board and getting just a little desperate.  My DD is going through a stage of early waking and transitioning to 1 nap, basically by refusing her afternoon nap.  Could someone please explain the basics to me regarding ideal EASY times for this stage?  Our routine for 2 naps was:
6am Wake
10-11 Nap
3-4 Nap
7pm Bed

She's been refusing the afternoon nap for a bit, so we've been trying to push her morning nap back a bit to get through the afternoon without a meltdown.  We now follow a general routine of:

5am - wake and cry, I go in give her her dummy and lay her down and she'll go back to sleep
5.30am - wake, generally happy
10.30/11am - 12.30/1am Nap (usally a bit shorter at daycare during the day)
7pm Bed

On Sunday she did this:

5am wake and cry, dummy and back to sleep
5.30am wake happy, sat with her until 6 then got her up
10-12 nap
3.30 - 4.30 nap as pretty cranky (and I had to wake her)
7pm bed

and then she woke at 5am then 5.30am again on Monday morning! Argh!

Is she getting too little/too much sleep during the day?  Am I putting her to bed too late?  Its so regular I can almost set my clock by her!  I'm also 3 months pregnant, and knackered to boot, so any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I would def opt for a very early bt.  Say 6pm with the one nap, at least that way if she sleeps till 5.30am it'll be 11.5hrs overnight.

Have you tried wake to sleep?

Has she got teeth coming?

Thanks Babybarr.  I put her down last night at 6.15pm (we're on NZ time) as she only had a 1hour nap all day at daycare and she slept through to 6am!  She woke crying at 1.30am and then at 5.15am so I think her canines are bugging her a bit, but she went back to sleep without too many problems.  Will definitely keep this up, it felt like a huge sleep in for me!

Great news, I would keep that early bed if she has a bad nap and def medicate if she wakes in the night.

Keep me posted.
