too long a nap and you tried to early for bedtime IMO.  i have found for my dd that even moving bedtime later by 30 min and giving her just that bit longer to wear herself out has helped her go to bed more easily.  she probably started out at 7:30 as UT and then got OT as she lay in there playing and now she's OT so it's going to be harder to get her down.

HI Brenda,
yes, I think that is what happened. it's just so hard b/c I was so scared to keep her up too long and have her be OT again:( she ended up falling asleep at 10:15pm and was up 6:15am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(:(:( so only 8hrs night sleep and 2hr nap = NOT ENOUGH SLEEP AGAIN!

I have NO idea what to do today now. I am just feeling worn out!

Huge huge hugs.

I completely agree that she was UT and went to OT. I think that Brenda is also right in that she had too much sleep, and I have found that not enough A time before the nap (no matter how tired they are) leads to bedtime problems. They take a good nap on the low A time because they are so tired but then if we let them sleep too long then we pay for it at bedtime or in the morning.

Apparently we are having our first no nap day on the new A time. It is really hard. I'm confused as well. He seemed to tired this morning (I almost put him down early) but then he got a second wind and didn't seem tired at all. Sigh.

So I would say nap 12ish for 1.5 hours and then see how bedtime goes.
She should surely be tired enough for bedtime with that low of night sleep and then not letting her catch up too much at nap time.
Hopefully 6 hours A time after 1.5 hours will be enough, but not too much.  :-\

And here we were thinking the hardest part of sleep was behind us..... hahaha...

I have yet to get the bedtime right on no nap days, therefore I only end up with 10.5-11 hours of night sleep. Sigh.

It is bad news if I put H in ut; he rolls around and gets ot.  So, I usually err on the side of him going down ot (because he seems to do ok with that).  Most of the time, I think we hit the mark pretty well.  But I don't know that he is the "norm" regarding ut and ot.  ;-)

Sher, is it the ot second wind?  H will start to run around crazy if he starts to getting too ot before bedtime/nap time.  We read it as an SOS signal, here.  I know we need to pop him in to the bed with the fastest wind down possible if that starts to happen (shorten the amt of books, and the whole routine).  Oddly, he doesn't fight me on it for the most part, though.

Nicole, I think Sher's suggestion sounds good.  I hope all went well for nap.

Hey Nicole,
That's good news. I'm not sure about the bedtime, because her A time seems to be quite long in the evening  :-\
But, since it's a shorter nap, I think I would go for 8 tonight and see how she does.
Then if you get the huge playing up thing then go for 8:30 tomorrow  ???
I would think that for most kids 6 hours A time after a 1.5 hour nap would be plenty, but Brenda would probably be a better judgment of that.

Thanks for you kind thoughts :)

I hope things go better tonight.

How has her behavior been today?

LOL, I was going to say split it down the middle and do 8:15.  Back it up or move it later as needed.  The site kept going down when I tried to post earlier.  H wouldn't go for 8, but that is H.  You don't know until you try, and there is always tomorrow.  :-)

XXXXX for the great day!  Something is working :0) !  It sounds like it is sorting out a bit.  Great job mom!

H is fine with 8:30 with 1.5 or 1.75 hrs for nap.

well...I pushed it..8:30 came around and I hadn't read a book yet...so I didn't get her into bed til about 8:40/8:45..she still seemed happy and not OT at all.
she came out at 9pm and wanted to come out ! I could see she was getting OT so I laid in her bed...she was asleep at 9:15pm.
SOOOOOO....tomorrow I try 1hr nap b/c Ideally i'd love to have her in bed by 8pm.

I am going to try 12:30-1:30pm and see if she can make it til 8....I know that's 6.5hrs on a 1hr nap but it just might work. ....

Ear infection? Did the behaviour coincide with starting swimming?

Funny that H wasn't in bed until about 9:10 last night, also.  It is so sunny so late right now, and we didn't realize how late it was.  Too busy enjoying the evening.  OOPS!  But so far so good today.  This afternoon may be a different story.  Curious to hear how she does today (as H had a similar bedtime).  Hope all is well today!
