How to scoop formula?
« on: July 03, 2010, 14:35:27 pm »
What is the correct way to scoop formula?

I was leveling with knife, but I noticed in the scoop there was a open space with no powder.  I want to be sure I'm doing this right.

There was always a 'ledge' (for want of a better description!) at the top of my formula tubs that was meant for levelling, but it did the same thing as you will be doing with a knife. As far as i know, the scoop needed to be full (but not packed, if that makes sense) and level.

Leveler? I  just have a scoop.

I use Wal Mart's Parent Choice (generic of Similac Advanced)

Just curious...how do you know Parents Choice is the generic of Similac Advance? I use the Similac Advance occasionally when supplementing, and I hadn't heard that! It sure would save me some $$$.

Ok so on uk tubs there is a plastic lip type thing inside the tub that you can scrape the scoop on to level it. Hard to describe. Sorry! Not sure what US ones are like?

Isn't that ledge formed from where you remove the inside lid with the ring pull?  I'd still be inclined to use a knife (and did when I was FF) as I wouldn't want to risk any tiny bits of anything falling in, but maybe that's just me...

Some UK brands - Cow & Gate is one, actually have a strip of plastic diagonally across one corner of the top of the tub designed for levelling the scoop against. I've never got the hang of them and found it easier to use a knife though - maybe because I'm a leftie and the world is designed for righties!

No ledge on mine. I know it's the generic equv. because on the outside top of the can in the corner of the label (small) and on the back it compares them.  It says Compared to Similac Advanced.  It's almost $12 here! Big difference than paying $21.
