18 week old NWs - advice please
« on: July 05, 2010, 19:12:48 pm »
Hi

Over the past 2/3 weeks we've been getting NWs, somewhere between 3-5 am, now l think these are due to having day naps disrupted by spending too much time out of the house. When DD wakes, my DH thinks l should feed her, but l don't feel that is what the problem is - she isn't crying, she plays with her feet & practicing her rolling over. She has been teething on & off for the last 4 weeks but again she isn't crying in pain or any other way either. Could it just be developmental waking or a growth spurt but without the need for a feed?

We are on 4hr EASY. When we are at home we have good naps, like today we had 9.30-11.20 & 1.30-3.15, the first nap l had to help her extend but the afternoon one she slept all the way through  :D l couldn't persuade her to have her CN but went to bed @ 6.10.

ls it possible to *train* them to sleep for the full time whilst out in the pram/pushchair?

We are busy for the next week & half but after that l'm hoping to spend at least a week indoors!! ::) At least the house will be tidy!  :P

Thanks in advance xxx

Hi there, I think your EW could be OT EW.  3 hours is a really really long A time for a LO that age with no CN.  It's summer and you're busy so sometimes you just have to work around that, when you are ready you can stay home and commit to sleep training and setting up a routine.

It's hard to train LO to sleep in a pushchair, they really either will or won't :-)  Really if you do it, I would do it only for the CN.  Otherwise the motion becomes a prop and then it's harder to break this habit later.  But certainly a kip in the chair when out and about is a good way to get in the CN.  I know lots of kids that have spent their entire infancy napping in their pushchair, and it works for some.  But depending on the temperament and how their nights go, it's not for every kid.

She also could be ready for more A time during the day, could you post your full day in EAS.

Hi Wendy

l was wondering when l needed to start extending A time again so l'll take a look at the EAS samples.

Good point about the pushchair becoming a prop.

This is our 4hr EASY that l try to stick to

E-7am
A-7-9
S-9-11

E-11
A-11-1
S-1-3

E-3
A-3-4.30 (including a CF @ 4.30
S-5-5.45

Bath time - 6
E & Bed time from 6.30

This is our EASY from yesterday

E-7
A-7-9
S-9.30-11.20 (started S at 9 but she didn't start her sleep until 9.30)

E-11.30
A-11.35-1.30
S-1.30-3.15

E-3.20
A-3.30-6
CF-4.30
CN-5 - but l couldn't get her to have her cat nap!
Bed time was 6

Last nights sleep was much better. NW @ 2.30 l put her thumb in & she went straight back to sleep. DH says she was very restless from about 5.30 but didn't actually wake until 7.20!

Hi there, her naps are long actually.  Most LO's are doing 2x 1.5 hr naps + 30-45 min CN on the 4 hr EASY.  I wonder if she's fighting her CN because she's getting too much sleep earlier in the day?

Other than that, it looks pretty good to me :-)  Her day isn't too long and actually she gave you a really long night with an early bedtime.  Great!

Hi there

Thank you for that advice, yesterdays sleeps were SO much better. 2 x 1.5 & CN was 45 mins long & last night she slept through until 6am ish  :) So much better than waking at anywhere between 3 & 6!
