how do you use a dummy to determine if NW is hunger?
« on: July 11, 2010, 10:01:27 am »
My LO is not consistent in NW. Sometime she will wake up once or twice (between the DF @ 10:30 to 11 to 7).  I've been feeding her every NW as that is what I read somewhere for a LO this young but I'm noticing the sucking time may be much less than the sucking time during the day. Hence I started using a dummy to determine if NW is hunger. I read this somewhere too but how does that work? If its hunger related, she'll spit it out? Or if it's hunger related, she'll settle but then will wake up shortly again afters?  I feel so silly sticking the dummy in her mouth and then thinking, now what?

Hey Christina,
Usually they will spit the dummy out if they are really hungry, but to be honest unless you have clear signs that your LO is windy (ie kicking her legs) or dirty I would just feed her.  Even if she is only taking a little to settle her down it may mean that you get a longer streach of sleep next time :)  Just what I do though, I like to use every opportunity to put in more calories as my LOs don't gain all that quickly xx
