Toddler EW in Big Boy Bed
« on: July 26, 2010, 23:36:51 pm »
My DS is 2 years old.  We moved him into a toddler bed about 3 weeks ago.  The first two weeks went fine, then he realized he could get out of bed once he wakes up.  So we put up a baby gate so at least he doesn't leave his room.  However, now he's been getting up at 4:30 or 5:00 AM every day and opening the door.   We have to keep putting him back to bed and tell him it's too early to get up.  But he doesn't go back to sleep -- and of course neither do we.  Not sure what to do.  We tried putting him back nicely with minimal discussion but the only thing that works is yelling at him till he cries.  That keeps him quiet for a little while but he still doesn't go back to sleep.  Also, not sure what is waking him in the first place although he is waking up crying.

Before this he was sleeping consistently 7-7 or later -- and if he woke up early he would go back to sleep on his own.

Any suggestions?  Anyone else have this problem.  I am due with the second child in two weeks and would love to have this fixed before then.

What's the rest of his day look like? Wake time, bedtime? the time of the nap? That is a long nap for a 2 year old. My DD can do 2 hours max or we end up with night sleeping troubles. But, let's see your routine. Maybe we can work something out. Is the big bed in a new room? Could it be not dark enough, new noises???
