spit up and shaken mom...
« on: August 02, 2010, 15:49:00 pm »
Hello,

I need some advice.  My first (stanley) had pyloric stenosis and hardly spit up until he was about 3wks.  My second (Henrietta) has started spitting up now just in the past few days (she's 2mo).  it's not always after a meal and it is quite alot more then she has been spitting up in the past.  It's gone from what looks like a quarter of an oz to about an oz and a half... Like I said this is new and as my son had the same kind of sudden lots of spit up, I'm starting to get worried... believe me it could all me in my head...

but, can babies suddenly increase their spit up "just cause" and not for a worse reason?

If you are worried and given family history I would get her checked out. It could be that she has a bit of reflux, 8/9 weeks was when both mine started to get significantly worse but if she is not bothered by it, it's not causing her to lose weight and she is having the appropriate amount of wet and dirty nappies then it's probably nothing to worry about.

HTH!

I agree with Laura that if you're concerned, you should trust your mommy instinct and get her checked out.  It could be nothing, but given your experience with your ds it's better to be safe :)

Keep in mind too that spit up can look like a lot more than it is.  If you spill an oz of water on the floor it looks like a TON!  So she may not be spitting as much as it seems.

hmmmm.... the doc ordered an upper gi... I dont think I want to put hattie through that again!  She went through one when she was 3wks.  So instead I will be recording all her spit ups and how much they are.  I also will be monitoring her diapers to see that she is actually getting stuff through.

It's nice that the doc doesn't want to have happen to Hattie what happened to Stan (uber dehydration) but I think two GIs in less then three months just seems extreme.  I'll watch over the next few days and see what happens.  I've seen it before and know what it looks like.  I'll be able to tell in a few days if it's what I think it is....

thx again
