Bottle Feeding
« on: August 06, 2010, 13:35:40 pm »
My baby is 8 weeks old and I am trying to get him into the EASY Routine, I just wanted to check what do you recommend that he should be taking at each bottle,as some times he takes 4.5 and sometimes only 3 oz.  I don't want to over feed him tho as he quite often wakes up after an hours sleep being sick.

Thanks

I think it is quite hard to overfeed a baby this age or any age really. They normally know how much to drink.

The advice really is to let your baby guide you and they will take what they need. There should be enough in the bottle so they can stop because they are full and not just because the bottle is empty. It could be that he is taking in to much air when he drinks so it may help to burp him for a bit longer  - does he burp easily or is it difficult to get wind up?

A lot of babies have a degree of reflux until the sphincter at the top of the stomach gets strong enough to hold their food in. If he isn't bothered by the sick and he is gaining weight well, having plenty of wet and dirty nappies etc then it's nothing to worry about. If it is bothering him or he is showing any other signs of reflux http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=13.0 then it would be worth getting him checked out with your Dr.

HTH!
