I had a look at Tracy's book "The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems" (pg 27-31, if you'd like to look up the reference), and some things came to mind regarding your LO:
A full-term baby is now considered at 37 weeks (could be a little more, depending on the child). So, for example, my LO was born at 38 weeks, but I've always considered him full-term. Your LO, I would guess, would be like you said: somewhere between 2-5 weeks, adjusted. That's quite a range, though, at this point in their life. Lots of growth spurts and development.
Tracy states in the above reference that the 3h EASY was designed for the average weight newborn--between 6.5-8 lbs. If your LO still weighs in somewhere in that range, eating every 2.5-3h is considered normal, given that he was premature (he's got some catching up to do!
. But, LO will naturally probably start to move towards a 3h EASY soon.
He was doing pretty good on a 3 hour easy and I've been tracking his progress from day one but he NEVER goes past 3 hours sleep at night. Its like clockwork and he usually takes 3-4 oz at night (1am and 4am).
As I mentioned above, his body is probably trying to catch up and is working to put on the weight. He probably will wake up this often until he's a little bit bigger (by any chance, do you know how much weighs?).
I've been reading about so many people with 8 wk olds sleeping right past the 1am feeding and I just can break the 3 hour routine at night time.
Again, as previously mentioned, he's technically not 8 weeks old, so can't last as long in between night feeds as full-term 8 wo LOs. Tbh, it sounds like he's doing what his body needs. My DS only weighed 6.1 lbs when he was born--5.12 when he left the hospital-- and he fed about every 3h at night. Once he got closer to ~2 months, he was starting to drop those night feeds.
I'd be happy to take a look at your LO's day, to see if there's anything that jumps out at me. How much is he eating during his E times? Is he bottle or breastfed?
