Waking up early every morning
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:12:04 am »
My LO has been waking early every day, usually is up at around 6am (we are on a 7am EASY). He is not hungry as he doesn't cry, and is usually fed at around 710am. He is 5 months old, and is teething on and off, but I don't think that is the cause of the early waking. We have been using PU/PD but unsuccessfully. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help? Please! I am going crazy here...
Thanks!

Is his room really dark? It helped heaps once I got block out blinds in LO's room.

EW can have many reasons. It might be that your baby is readjusting and prefers to wake up earlier. I was also on a 7am EASY when my DS was 5 months but he never really woke up at 7am he always prefered to wake up earlier. I just had to change my EASY to 6 am instead of 7am.(7 am is just a guideline start time)
Your LO could be overtired????This also can be a cause for EW. Maybe if you post your EASY routine here somebody might be able to see if it needs readjusting. :)

yes agree with PP post your routine in EAS format.

one thing that stuck out at me was you saying you are on a 7am EASY? Does your lo have a 7pm bedtime too? Because if so waking at 6am is 11 hrs sleep so not technically an EW so PUPD or whatver you try and use will not get him back to sleep cos they maybe all he needs.

If the routine doesnt need tweaking id be inclined to just leave him to chat to himself untill you are ready to start the day.As long as he isnt crying.lets look at your routine and see xx

Thanks for ur replies ladies. I just feel awful leaving him alone, and I usually do that for 10 minutes or so before I go in. Here is our EASY routine
7AM Wake up and feed
A from 730-9am
S from 9am to 1030am, I sometimes use PU/PD to increase this nap time, but sometimes just let him play with himself in the crib
11AM eat
A from 1130-1
S from 1-230/3, and again I use PU/PD to increase this nap if possible, but if he gets cranky I let him play with himself
3PM eat
A from 330-5pm
Catnap from 5-530
A from 6-7pm
7PM eat
730 Bath
Sleep at 8pm

Don't feel bad for leaving him alone if he is happy! If he needs you he will soon let you know!

Your routine looks great, I wouldn't try to extend a nap of 1.5hrs, those are some great naps you are getting! Perhaps he's ready for another 15 mins of A time?
