Tips for using EBM needed please
« on: August 17, 2010, 18:13:06 pm »
Hello,
can i get some help to my questions please.
 ~~~I am BF my 11 week old and i am not sure how to store EBM for when i go out. I mean If i am going out with him i would like to take some expressed milk so that i can feed him without rushing and being too conscious of getting my boobs out. At the moment i breast feed mostly in the car but i feel i am not relaxed or comfortable when doing this.
~~ I would also like to give EBM during the night but because the fridge is downstairs it can be a hassle going down stairs to get milk and warm it up in water etc. I really want to use EBM at night so that DH can help with the night time feeds.
Thanks for your tips
listening in for ideas.
But BM is fine for 4 hrs at room temperature so normally when going out I just take in a  bottle and maybe put in a cool bag so stays cooler for longer.
In terms of NF the reason i stopped EBM was because of similar reasons, 1 it was a hassle to get the water warm, milk warmed etc and by then DS2 would be crying loudly and waking DS1, so I do a DF with EBM and NF is BM. Also saves having to express in the middle of the night!
Hiya,
 Just dropping the link for reference:
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage.html#handling
About the NF of EBM: what we used to do (but it wasn't on a regular basis) was to freeze the milk and take the frozen bottle upstairs when we went to bed, when DS woke up it would be partially defrosted - we would just put it in the bathroom sink full of hot tap water, 5 min and it was warm.
But tbh I still found it a lot of hassle and most of the time just done what mutka suggested - DF EBM and NF breast.
LOL! LOL! LOL!
We're lucky that DD, once she falls asleep nothing wakes her up. But I have to say that with us it always defied the purpose of giving me more sleep since I would always end up waking up as well...
TBH I started DF as EBM since on the breast DS2 would fall right back to sleep and then wake up an hr later for milk again so with a bottle i know he gets in a bit more.
