She's outgrown her pillow
« on: August 28, 2010, 03:38:30 am »
My DD will be 3 in Oct.  She still insists on using her toddler pillow she's had since about 18 months old. Probably a comfort measure.  Any  time I suggest using a "big girl" pillow, she does not go for it.  I have even had her go with me to pick out her own pillowcase, but it does not work.  The poor pillow is about the size of a postage stamp relative to her head now, and is so flattened out, that it can't provide any real support.  It certainly is not an issue that I worry much about, but I just wonder if anyone has any suggestions?  I think she is intimidated by the size of the standard pillows, has anyone ever seen anything smaller?

TBH I've heard that really we don't need pillows & they don't really provide support unless they are the really expensive contoured type, so if she doesn't want one, I'd let her be.  My 5yo spends most of the night not sleeping on his pillow & never complains about a sore neck or anything.

My lovey was also a pillow - a very small heart shaped one - I still sleep with a small heart shaped one now (not the original, that disintergrated many years ago).  I agree with both the above, try adding an normal pillow and if she doesn't sleep with it I wouldn't worry too much as we don't need pillows.
