14wk stopped STTN????
« on: August 30, 2010, 22:51:07 pm »
Hello Ladies.  My DS is 3 1/2 months and has been sleeping through the night since 5 weeks, but for the last 9 nights he has been waking 2-3 times.  He sleeps in a crib in our room but with the NW I've been bringing him in bed to bf and then not puttng him back in his crib (I'm afraid of making this a habit which is why I'm coming for help!).

I don't think he's been eating less during the day and his naps are great.  He's doing 3x 1.5 hr naps and one 30-45min catnap.  During the last 2 weeks we've been working on extending his naps with great success.  I go in at 35 minutes and help him through the jolts.  Previously I was going in after he'd woken up and then fighting to get him back to sleep with shh/pat for 20-45 minutes with lots of crying and only some success.

I'm going back to work part time in a week and so while working on naps we've also been working on bottles.  Could the combo of extending naps and doing lots of bottle feeding be the reason he's waking up?  I don't think he's getting any less milk with the bottles of EBM since I generally try and bf after the bottles to make sure he's full.  I'm so confused.  He's on a 3.5-4 hr EASY.

HELP!  Is this something we need to deal with before it gets out of control and he's back in our bed and waking up more and more or could he just be going through a growth spurt?

Here's a typical EASY for us:

E: 6:30
A: 6:50-7:45
S: 7:45-9:45
E: 10:00
A: 10:20-11:15
S:11:15-12:30
E: 12:45-1:00
A: 1:00-2:20
S: 2:25-3:30
E: 4:10
A: 4:15-5:15
S: 5:15-6:30
E:6:45
A: 7:00-8:00
E: 8:15
S: 9:00

Hi
I agree with the previous post I would reduce the amount of day sleep and your LO is having over 5 hours of sleep per day

One thing I would urge you to do is not let your LO come into your bed as it will become a habit, my friend has a 1yr 3mth son who is still in their bed at night! it won't be a phase they will get over

Good luck x

Could it also be his 3 month growth spurt? My LO kept waking through the night after her 3 month growth spurt (and 6 month growth spurt) because she got used to the attention. I overcame it by getting my hubby to re-settle her so she wasn't expecting a feed.  It took a few nights but she eventually went back to sleeping through again.

All the best xo

Thanks for all the help.  We have been trying to put him down at night around 8:30 and he still won't go to sleep until 9:30-ish (last night it was 10!).  I think this is partly the habit we have of nursing him in bed to fall asleep and I think it's not a good idea anymore.

So if he needs to sleep less during the day than I need to extend all his A times, right?  He's been getting better at going closer to A time of 2h15 rather than 2 hours.  I'll start working on that and hope it helps!
