Sudden erratic NW 15wk old
« on: August 31, 2010, 21:52:43 pm »
Hi all, just after some of your wonderful thoughts & advice if I may....my 15wk old boy has started waking up to 10 times a night this last week after previously waking a max of 2 times p/night. He is bottlefed and we struggle to get him to drink all his feeds during the day but he still consumes enough for his weight (almost 8kgs!) I wondered if his erratic NW wakings could be any of these things......1. he uses a paci to get to sleep, he isnt settled by just popping it back in with NW ?prop. 2. Age related and just developmental 3. Growth spurt, however he doesnt take full feed at NW 4. ready to move to 4 hour EASY -however he struggles with 1.5hr A time. Sorry for messy post I am extremely sleep deprived atm and cant see clearly what could be going on, Thanks xx Tanya :)

My LO is 22 weeks and also went through this recently. How is he napping? The reason I ask is because he may need to move closer to a 4 hr EASY.
The other thought I have is that it could be due to the paci. I am going to attempt to wean the paci this weekend (when DH is home to help) because it is causing major sleep disturbances. DS used to stir once a night at around 5:00am - I would replug once and not hear a peep until 7 or so. Now, he stirs at 11:30pm and is up every half hour or hour after that to be plugged back in!!!!! It is making me crazy!

I know exactly wat u mean, damn paci's such a necessary evil! I have a sneaking suspicion this is what it is also.....for his 2nd nap (was way OT at first one) I have just left one arm unwrapped and stuck his fist in his mouth - he , does this all waking hours anyway, so will see what happens at 1st 40mins when he jolts. He's been napping fantastically lately I was really concentrating on extending his naps and it has worked BUT I am wondering if he is sleeping too well in the day now, am cutting them back to 1.5hours max for a couple of days also to see if that makes any difference. He can go the 4 hours no worries without milk its just the A time that messes us up, he struggles with 1.5 hours, how did your lo go when 1st trans to 2 hour A time? Feeling your craziness lol :)

My LO is such a great napper that when I started getting 45 min naps, I knew something was up. I just jumped straight up to 1hr45 A time, and that did the trick but only for a week or two then I had to go to 2hr A time and he handled it really well. He struggled at first but stuck it out and he was fine. He still gets really cranky about 10 min before nap time but if I put him down right away I get a UT nap. So, I just keep him occupied for those 10 min before we do a really quick winddown and he sleeps 2 hrs. Actually, he's napping so well that I need to wake him from his naps almost every time! I've been thinking about cutting his naps to 1.5 hrs as well. Let me know how that works out! Now, nighttime sleep is a totally different story!!!!
