EW...overwhelmed with tackling
« on: September 11, 2010, 19:52:33 pm »
Okay so my 7.5 month old daughter is waking at 530-545am 60% of the time. When she was a few months old she used to wake up at 630am and that is the latest she has ever slept. On a good day sometimes she sleeps to 6am. On a bad day sometimes she is up at 4am. Sometimes I try to put her back to sleep, sometimes I don't. I'm very inconsistent in this area.

My question should I be trying to put her back to sleep using PUPD, or just PD when she wakes happy (she'll play for about 10 min on her own then crys for us). Or is this not a good idea and it won't do any good? I don't want to torture her for no reason.

I know I should be analyzing her day to see what causes it, but honestly that EW link...pretty much anything could be causing it and I just get overwhelmed.

Are you following an EASY routine?

Can you post what's happening?

Often times what you are doing during the day and night time will shed light on the reasons she is EW - that way you can avoid the PU/PD if the issue is elsewhere ITMS?

Yes I do know, I just can't put my finger on it.

Here's our EASY on the days she wakes at 6am. If she wakes earlier everything just shifts anbedtime gets moved up.

E - 6am wake BF
A - 6-845am (7am  solids)
S - 850-1010am
E - 1015am BF
A-1010-120pm (1130 solids)
S- 120 - 245
E - 245 BF
A - 245 - 7pm (530 solids)
E - 630pm
S - 7pm -715 bedtime

She dropped the cat nap about a week ago (she was alway an early riser before that though) and she naps for 1hr 20 min at each of the two naps.  Maybe she is one of those cases where she's just an early riser  and if she wakes at 6am I should accept that?? However I know when she wakes up at 4am it's got to be an EASY problem the day before. She's probably over tierd or I was out too much with her. But sometimes those days are unavoidable, so what do I do when she wakes at 4am?

Following along...I have a very similar issue, and silimar EASY schedule, but I'm squeezing in a 30 min. CN because my LO can't do that last part of the day.
Can anyone tell me what EW are generally caused by?

bummer about the 10 hours but good to know! I will try adjusting A times. It seems she stays up for so long in the afternoon without getting tierd now that the cat nap is officially gone. I have noticed that when I put her to bed earlier so seems to wake up later though.

We tried blacking out the room and it worked for 2 days then she went back to waking early. Plus it's hard for us to black out the room because we don't have air and we really need to leave the windows open and have a breeze. I will try white noise tomorrow though!

thanks for the advice!

Things are getting better but I think it's only because of AP. For the past 3 days DD has been waking around 430 or 5 playing for a few minutes then crying. If I feed her laying in bed she falls back a sleep until 615-630. One day it was 645...heaven! however if I try and move her to the crib or even if I move around in bed to much she wakes and starts playing. Am I creating a bad habit here? What should I be doing instead?  I have been tweaking with her actiivty times more and she seems to nto be waking at 4 at least. Somedays though her EASY just gets messed up. Like yesterday I took her to the zoo and tried to get home early for nap time but she fell a sleep in the stroller early and only slept 35 min and wouldn't take another nap after that.

I guess I'm wondering, should I take her in my bed and feed her and let her fall back a sleep when she wakes at 5am or am I going to be wishing I had never done that a few months from now??

Hi Hawaiimom

Just tagging along as I'm in the same boat.  My dd is waking between 5-5:30 each morning.  I'm personally choosing not to feed as it took sooo long to stop the night feeds I really don't want to go back there.  I posted my own question about EWs and Wendy said to push out the first A of the day as my lo is only doing 3 hours at the moment and could be doing at least 3.25 or 3.5  (my lo is 8 months today).  I'm going to try that and see what happens...
