6 hr A time
« on: September 22, 2010, 00:23:15 am »
DD 20 months.  We are getting short naps after 5.5hrs A time which has been so consistent since 13 months :-\
I am planning on pushing out to 6 hr A time but I was wanting to get an idea from others what your day looks like with a 6hr A time?  How long is the nap and how much A time before bed?  and how long are your nights?  If we push out to 6 hours sleep time has to give somewhere and I don't want to cut nights or naps :-\

Our day looks like:
Awake 6 (on a good day, lately we have had EW again - *sigh*)
Nap 12 - 2/2:30
Asleep by 7:30

We have tried capping the nap at 2 hrs but doesn't really help our nights, in fact, most often, he will give us a slightly longer night with a longer nap.  It's weird.  So right now we are riding it out.

What does your routine look like now with wake and bedtime?  What is a short nap for her?
The tweaking never stops!

DD is 19 months- her day looks like this (most of the time)
Awake 7am (sometimes 7.30)
Nap 1-3
Bed 7

She seems to prefer the much longer am and will sometimes sleep til 3.30pm and still go to bed at 7. She can be pretty grumpy in the morning but I find if I put her down before 1pm she will short nap.

Right now we look like:
wake 7am (I don't usually let her sleep past 7:15am so we can get a decent nap at 1pm)
nap at 1-3
bed at 8
She's in bed at 8 but takes 20-30 min to fall asleep.  Which gives us a 10.5 hour night.
Short naps are 1hr15min/30min and in that case we go 5hrs A time and she makes up for it at night.
Just wanted to get a good pic of what other routines look like.  I am surprised Janecharlotte that your LO will go down after 4hr A time in the afternoon.  That would be great!

Finn will too, at a push he'll go to bed not long after his nap - even at 4 hrs if he had a long A time in the AM.  He's always had an early sleep cycle.  But that's not to say he won't wake at 4 a.m. lol

D is 15mths and his day goes:

6-6.45 wake (usually around the 6.30 mark)
1-2.45 nap (I have to wake him at 2.45 for the school run)
7.15 bed

However if we're out in the car in the morning he'll always drop off- so annoying! But 10 mins or so in the car doesn't tend to damage the nap at all.

I know- she usually asks for bed at 6.30?? Mind you we had a few months of nap refusals and bedtime refusal along with NW and EW before we went to a 6A in the morning. It seems to be the routine that works (at the moment). I'm guessing it won't last too much longer but am happy while it does.

so glad youve asked this question!

similar A time issues but my main issue is that I can get a decent nap at her set time of 12.30/12.45 regardless of wake time (usually 7/7.30) but whenever she naps longer than 1 hr 30 mins she refuses bedtime at 7.30?

so think I am needing the 6 hr A time in the evening cos when she was ill last week she went to bed no problems on 2 occassions both when she had been at MILs and short napped for just 45 mins - 1 hr - the other days when she napped over 1.5 hrs she was a nightmare and still is!

so confusing!

Phew!  6hr A time in the evening!  It's just so interesting the differences in each LO. Just curious for those who have replies how long does it take your LO to fall asleep at night?  Mine takes 20-30min after a 2hr nap and on days, like today, when she has a 1hr40min nap she will fall asleep much faster.

It is very interesting because Finn takes like zero time unless he's had a particularly 'full' day and needs to discuss it with himself.  He really is out in less than 5 mins most nights.  Or he's being verrrry quiet about it!  Tonight he was out before the mobile turned off (it's more like a mobile/lamp thing that projects stars on the ceiling and sits on his dresser)

He takes a bit longer for naps but never more than 15 mins.

We definitely find that sleep begets sleep for him so if he's had a longer nap, he's ready for bed sooner sometimes, even after a 2.5 hr nap!  If he's OT in any way, then he can be hard to get ready for bed, he goes into second wind and makes the wind down really extended because we have to wrestle him and such.

The tweaking never stops!

Interesting.  I have to cut the nap at 2hours because if it's more it will take more time for her to fall asleep.  Tonight she was asleep in minutes but that was after a shorter nap of 1hr40min.  I would love for her to fall asleep in no time at all.
