12 week old Sleeps and naps

Why is it that my 12 week old baby can happily put herself to sleep after the night feed/diaper change at 4am but during the day she cannot put herself to sleep.

She is on a 3 hour EASY routine but it takes forever to get her to sleep with the pat/shh method. If I put her in her crib she just cries so I have to use the pat/sh method on my shoulder. But why can she put herself to sleep after the night feed but not at any other time?

This evening she cried so much it took 3 hours to get her to sleep!

My lo is 12 weeks on Saturday and is the same (although recently the nights have been HORRIBLE), but generally he is more relaxed and better able to fall asleep on his own at night. Maybe because they are already drowsy? I can only occasionally get him to do p/s in the crib when he is nice and drowsy before bedtime or rarely a nap. And if he is OT forget it! Am thinking I am going to have to bite the bullet and go cold turkey in crib from start to finish but need to get a handle on EASY and eating issues first.

I wonder if your lo was OT tonight? Was that 3 hours on your shoulder?

Babies organize day and night sleep differently, so what you're experiencing is very, very common.  Can you post your EASY routine and we can take a look?  Also, what are you doing for a wind down?  Is she swaddled?  Are you doing pat/shh?
