My twins are just over 4 months and want to move them to a 4 hour routine. I know we are going to run into problems with short naps and want to have a strategy ahead of time that DH and I can follow consistently. I just read all about PU/PD and must admit I'm a bit skeptical... it feels like it would overstimulate the baby. I'm looking for real-life people who have had success with it. Also I want to make sure I'm doing it right... when the cry goes beyond a mantra cry I go in, pick them up (no bouncy/walking right?)... then do I wait until they stop crying and what if they don't? Do I talk to them? Please help!

I never had much luck using PUPD to extend naps. I would still always try, but it rarely worked. More important for us was a) age (he grew into longer naps) b) getting the A time exactly right c) W2S. PUPD is an exceptionally good tool for teaching independent sleep, but CAN be more difficult to extend naps. On the other hand though, if it is a self-settling problem, it can help extend the naps because the baby knows how to go to sleep independently so is more likely to self settle when they wake at the 45 mins mark.

I think PU/PD would be more for a little bit older babies.
I am trying to extend my baby's 45 minute naps by shhh/pat method and resettling him into a second sleep cycle. We are on week one and it seems to be working but still got a long way to go!
