ok so I have a different slant on GSs.
I never had the patience to let mother nature take her course and neither did Emma (Oscar DID and was a great feeder, regardless of supply). Emma would bob on and off and never seem satisified so I just parked myself on the couch with her those days (weeks 3,7,10,12 were Emma's worst whereas Oscar's were at 6,12,18 so he was much more textbook) and I would pump after every feed, for at least a half an hour and whatever I got I used to top her up after her next fractious feed (again in our case it was every two hours for around 1-3 days).
I KNOW now Emma had a tongue tie (didn't find that out until after the 12 week GS which was by far her WORST) and that is why she was impatient but she is still impatient when it comes to food till today.....
So if she fed at 7am I would put her in the bouncy (she was always a fast feeder and NEVER wanted to stay on empty whereas Oscar did this no probs) and Oscar in the highchair for brekkie (or DH would look after him) and I would pump on empty, even on here, ignoring the fact that there was no milk there (easier said than done I know) and then get her down to sleep, would get something out even an oz or two, then 9am feed if still fractious would give her those 2oz and then pump again and keep dry pumping for up to half an hour etc etc.
I KNOW GSs with Emma would have gone on MUCH MUCH longer and have been extremely detrimental to my sleep, her weight gain and our overall wellbeing as a family otherwise but she was a very particular little madam who just didn't like to suck on an empty or almost empty breast, period xxx
