Trying to put her down for a nap - 1.5 hours!!!
« on: December 10, 2010, 12:30:59 pm »
Last weekend, my 14 motnhs old baby started screaming when puting her down for nap (noon) - the next week with the nanny she was fine and now i'm walking in and out her room for a while now. She's relaxed when i'm there, stars screaming when i approach the door.

What can i do before it influences the night also? I think it's separaion anxiety - she was willing to go to sleep but when i tried going out her room she started screaming. Now i am outside because i need to relax (after an hour an a half) and she now stopped screaming after 2 minutes, but how can i solve this?

Please help

Okay, she fell asleep after 2 minutes that i left. I did not let her cry alone, i did not break the trust since i was there, and i did not give up. But it took alot of time (maybe i should've let her relax earlier?! i only went out becuase i had to rest).

What am i suppose to do next time? I only put her to bed at nap time on weekends. Also, i'm preagenent (19 weeks now) - could this be the trigger? She falls asleep on her own for over a year now. Desperate for your help.

Hi there, could you post your routine, it may be that she's ready for a routine change.

It could be SA related to your pregnancy, anything is possible.  You will need to decide if WI/WO or GW is better for your LO - have a read here:

It's totally normal to have a blip of SA around 14 mo. I'm with Wendy on WI/WO or GW.

There's not going to be a quick fix sweetie, it takes time and work. It will get better if you are consistent and stick with your plan. :)

Thanks for your replies, i know there's no quick-fix, but i wonder whether or not i'm doing it right... I did WI/WO but before i had to convince her to let me go. She's not like that, usually, really, she doesn't like us holding her, but now she want *me* to hold her.

I asked her if she wants to go to sleep and she said yes and reached her arms towards me, i took her to her room and closed the curtains and then she started crying. I held her in her bed trying to put her down for a while before i started WI/WO, so she'll be calm. Should i use WI/WO even if she's hysterical? Will it go away EVER?

of course it will, it really will but it feels like forever right now. Take a deep breath and remember it is a phase and these phases are testing but they do pass. I am going through it with my 2 year old right now so I now how you feel and how hard it is. I agree with the other ladies that you need to be consistent so whether you choose WIWO or GW you need to stick to it every time you put her down for a nap or night sleep so she knows what to expect.

Is she teething at all?

If she is hysterical then you might find GW works better.

I had to sooth her in her bed for a while, then i tried WI/WO but gradually, she did not like it one bit. The problem, or at least one problem is, i had to calm her down before i could make her put her head down. She wasn't like that, i dread the weekend...
