Most babies can do just fine with combined BF and FF.  You can either proceed as you indicate above, or you could combine expressed breastmilk and formula in the same bottle if you are worried it might be too harsh on her tummy.  As is the case with most things, you may just need to try and find out.

Mine always did a little formula early on. DD1 handled it fine, DD2 took a little while to accept it, but within a couple of weeks she was fine. There is a newborn formula from Emfamil that is little easier to digest if you wanted to try it.

Good suggestion above.  Oh, and don't let anyone try and convince you formula is bad for your LO.  It is not.  Nothing wrong with using it in any combination with BF (or even exclusively).

I've always BF my kids, but always wanted to have a backup plan, just incase I had supply problems (which I have had), or in the unlikely event I'm struck by a meteor on the way home, LOL! I have to pump quite a bit because I work 3 days a week and it is always harder to pump the righ amount so we use formula to make up the difference.
