10 MO NW 4 nights in a row - please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: January 06, 2011, 17:08:16 pm »
This is what I wrote yesterday...see bottom for today's update

DS is 10 months old. His routine is as follows:

7:40am: Wake and BF
8:15: solids (breakfast)
10:00: solids (snack)
11:45: lunch
12:15: BF (not to sleep) and nap
between 2:45 and 3:15: wake
3:15: solids (snack) and BF
5:45: dinner
7:00: bath and snack
7:30: BF and sleep

He did the 2-1 switch at 9 months and was doing really well on it. Long naps, good sleep, waking only once to feed at night.

For the last 4 days he has been waking at night for 1.5hrs to 3.5 hours (that was only one night and it was awful!). He is getting one tooth but it doesn't seem to be the issue as he doesn't wake in pain. He wakes up happy and wants to play. He does use a soother but he can find it on his own. He has a baby in his bed but it is more play than comfort.

I am wondering if he is OT. THes past 4 nights he has also woke up about 45 mins after I put him down to bed. Yesterday he had a short nap.

Today I am putting him back on his old 2 nap schedule. One long nap at 11:15 (hopefuly for 1.5 hrs) and a short nap at 4 (30 mins) and bed at 7:30.

I tried PU/PD with him but it just upsets him. He screams as though he is in pain. It makes things much worse. When DD was a baby it worked beautifully with her so I am actually at a loss at what to do.

What I ended up doing was bringing him to bed with me (I am exhausted) and it eventually works but only when he is tired enough. I know this isn't a good solution but I cannot nap during the day and I am very tired.

If you have any suggestions or advice, please please please help!!

Update: he slept 1.5 hours for Nap #1. I will try Nap #2 at 4:15. This is cutting his A times by 1 hour!!! Woah.

Today's update: Nap #2 was from 4:15 to 5:15 (I woke him up and he wasn't happy that I did that - usually he is fine if I wake him up). I put him to bed at 8:30 and he didn't fall asleep until 9:45! He played in his bed until then. Then he woke up at 1:30 wanting to feed and again at 5:30 wanting to feed (I think he is going through a growth spurt as he ate SO MUCH yesterday). He would cry if I put him in his bed so I just brought him to bed with me. I know it's not ideal but I need to sleep!!! He woke up this morning at 8am. I think he needs only one long nap and perhaps early bed?? Please help - I am going crazy with his sleep!

Hi there, are you offering pain meds for the teeth?  I would definitely stick to 2 naps, 1 nap for a 10 mth old is a prescription for OT for sure.

The tweaking never stops!

I offer it when he is showing signs of being in pain or discomfort. I'm not so sure about the two naps though...we did the switch a month ago because it was leading to late bedtimes (past 9!) and NW! He has always been a low sleep needs baby. He did the 3-2 switch around 4 months...and he usually sleeps 12 hours at night, waking only once to feed...yesterday was a disaster with the two naps...10pm bedtime is rediculous! Especially since he has to be up by 7:40 to get his sister to school....

I was thinking of trying that - glad you mention it! I will try that tomorrow...I tried it a month ago and it didn't work at all. He was cranky upon waking and wanted a second nap like an hour later. But that was a while ago so might work now.

Tried the short AM nap yesterday from 10-10:30, long PM nap from 2-4 and bed at 7:30. He woke to feed at 2:15 and immediately back to sleep and woke for the day at 6:40. That is an awesome sleep for him!!!! Trying it again today...hope it helps him get back on track!
