OMG, mad is not a strong enough word!!!  FURIOUS isn't even a strong enough word!!!  I don't even know where to begin finding out how to make a big deal out of this one, but yes a policy should be in place because that is just ridiculous.   >:(

How were you carrying it? Here are the "rules" I found from a UK gov web site, if you scroll down, you can take more than the 100ml limit but only enough for the flight :-\.

You should have been given way better information and treatment though - {{HUGS}} I would be furious too.

I would have cried myself!!!  Last time I brought back EBM, I put it in a big tuppaware box with ice and checked it in my luggage.  The no fluid policy would be hard to change unless you are with a baby.  I'm really sorry.

Yeah I was going to ask how you were carrying it. Anything over 100ml in hand luggage is not accepted but if it was in your suitcase it should have been OK. Hugs

That must have been heart breaking. So sorry all your effort went to waste.
Were you trying to take it through as hand luggage? If so I can understand why they can't allow you to do so since it would be a security risk. I believe these rules came in because some terrorists were planning to carry explosives on board an aeroplane disguised as baby milk and then build it into a bomb on the plane. The security services discovered this and arrested the people responsible but had to put in measures to ensure different people don't manage the same thing.
Could they not just let you check it in? I can't see why that would be a problem.

Sorry to hear this.

I travel a lot for work and pump as well. I always have to check in the milk unless I am travelling with my LO. BAA should have asked you to return to the check in counter to have the milk checked in. To dump is way way too ridiculous. I really feel for you. This is partially one of the reasons why I am stopping BF after 6 mths. Sometimes you just forget in the midst of the business trip. Hugs.

Did a quick google search out of curiosity.
It seems that there is varying rules about EBM.  Some places say you will check in EBM if LO not flying, some say only take as much as you need (yeah, 'cause every LO takes exactly the same amount of EBM or formula EVERY time ::) ), some say only the usual quart sized bag full of 100mL bottles, some say EBM is considered a medication and is exempt from the rules.  So there you go.  No-one wants to pony up and say THIS is the golden rule.
I do agree with Janet, that the nit-wit at BAA should have had you go back and check it in.  Might be worth a letter about that to someone. :-\

How incredibly heart-breaking.  :'(

Thanks ladies am feeling a bit more better now tht I am back and DS2 went right back on the boob...what a relief.

Well I was travelling without him, and was carrying the milk in a cool box with ice. I had been told that was ok. As you read Deb, there are no proper rules. Since it was an international flight I could not have chceked it in as I am not sure it would hvae survived ice for 12 hrs or so...but next time I will try and do that if I have to. The plan was to change the ice when it starts melting and the crew had offered to help.

The Je** would not let me go back and check it in as I had apparently gone through security and its impossible to go back, I begged him to let me get a BA person to come and check it in for me and he refused. I guess it was a bit of a power trip for me.

The guys checking at the beginning of the security area said no problem I cna carry it but this was the idiot at the machine and his manager who created an issue. Needless to say they were men, who probably don't get it!
I am going to write a strong note to BAA not sure it will make a difference. I offered to taste it and everything.....:(

This is awful!  Can you write a letter or call someone to complain?  Completely ridiculous!
